Book Review: Awaken the Fifth Order (The Immortal Orders, #3)

What are some of your DNF or just-struggling-to-get-through reads?

Unfortunately, Awaken the Fifth Order was a struggle for me to get through. I refuse to DNF a book, so I’ll push through as well as I can, often skimming the extra slow or repetitive sections.

For some reason, this book just felt slow to me, and I’m very sad about that because I was really intrigued by the first two books in this trilogy.

Title: Awake the Fifth Order

Author: Allison Carr Waechter

Series: The Immortal Orders

Genre: Contemporary Fantasy, Romance

Publisher: Independently Published

Page Count: 480

Content Warnings: graphic confinement, panic attacks/disorders, violence, sexual content; minor blood, pregnancy

It all ends in Nuva Troi.

Harlow Krane and Finn McKay have been through a lot. They never expected to have the chance to be together again, let alone the myriad ways they might be torn apart. To save everything they hold dear, they'll have to trust each other—and themselves—more than either thought possible.

With the threat of war on the horizon, Awaken the Fifth Order is a battle against overwhelming odds. Can Harlow and Finn reunite in time to save their relationship and Okairos?

Awaken the Fifth Order is the final book in The Immortal Orders Trilogy , a blazing hot fantasy romance series, set in a contemporary world of magic, deception, and betrayal.

★★★☆☆ — apathetic
🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ — spicy

I had high hopes for Awaken the Fifth Order, the final book in The Immortal Orders trilogy. Unfortunately, it fell short of my expectations. While I did enjoy the interactions between Finn and Harlow, which kept me engaged until the end, I found the overall story to be lacking in pace.

One aspect I appreciated was the unique blend of fantasy and science fiction. The incorporation of different species from various planets added an interesting twist to the world-building, deviating from the typical dimension-based approach.

Despite the positive elements, I couldn't ignore the fact that the book failed to captivate me. The plot felt stagnant, and the story didn't progress as quickly as I had hoped.

On a positive note, I was pleased that all the main characters received a happy ending. However, even with this resolution, I couldn't shake my overall disappointment with the book.

In conclusion, Awaken the Fifth Order had the potential to be a satisfying conclusion to the series. While it had its moments, the slow pacing and lack of progression left me wanting more. Ultimately, this book just didn't resonate with me as I had hoped.
