What is WWW Wednesday?

It's pretty simple! Every Wednesday, you share:
What are you currently reading?
What did you just finish reading?
What are you planning to read next?

Currently Reading

I am nearly done with Still the Sun by Charlie N. Holmberg, and I am, as fully expected, so completely in love with this story. Holmberg is already one of my favorite authors, so when her assistant messaged me and asked if I'd like to receive an advanced copy of her newest book, I freaked! Of course I said yes!

This book is such a beautiful piece of science fiction with a mind-blowing mystery, and I'm loving every word of it. This is an advanced copy, and the actual book will be published on July 1, 2024. However, if you subscribe to Amazon First Reads, you can get it FREE until the end of June!

An ancient machine holds the secrets of a distant world’s past for two intimate strangers in the latest romantic fantasy adventure by Wall Street Journal bestselling author Charlie N. Holmberg.

Pell is an engineer and digger by trade—unearthing and repairing the fascinating artifacts left behind by the mysterious Ancients who once inhabited the sunbaked planet of Tampere. She’ll do anything to help the people of her village survive and to better understand the secrets of what came before.

Heartwood and Moseus are keepers of a forbidding tower near the village of Emgarden. Inside are the remnants of complex machines the likes of which Pell has never seen. Considering her affinity for Ancient tech, the keepers know Pell is their only hope of putting the pieces of these metal puzzles together and getting them running. The tower’s other riddle is Heartwood himself. He is an enigma, distant yet protective, to whom Pell is inexplicably drawn.

Pell’s restoration of this broken behemoth soon brings disturbing visions—and the discovery that her relationship to it could finally reveal the origins of the towers’ strange keepers and the unfathomable reason the truth has been hidden from her.

Just Finished

I just finished The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston because my dear friend Ever Bookish recommended it to me, and I'm so glad she did! This easily slotted itself into my top five, and with only one book read, I think I'm an Ashley Poston fan. I am very excited to read more of her work because I really enjoyed her writing style. Read my full review here.

A disillusioned millennial ghostwriter who, quite literally, has some ghosts of her own, has to find her way back home in this sparkling adult debut from national bestselling author Ashley Poston.

Florence Day is the ghostwriter for one of the most prolific romance authors in the industry, and she has a problem—after a terrible breakup, she no longer believes in love. It’s as good as dead.

When her new editor, a too-handsome mountain of a man, won’t give her an extension on her book deadline, Florence prepares to kiss her career goodbye. But then she gets a phone call she never wanted to receive, and she must return home for the first time in a decade to help her family bury her beloved father.

For ten years, she’s run from the town that never understood her, and even though she misses the sound of a warm Southern night and her eccentric, loving family and their funeral parlor, she can’t bring herself to stay. Even with her father gone, it feels like nothing in this town has changed. And she hates it.

Until she finds a ghost standing at the funeral parlor’s front door, just as broad and infuriatingly handsome as ever, and he’s just as confused about why he’s there as she is.

Romance is most certainly dead . . . but so is her new editor, and his unfinished business will have her second-guessing everything she’s ever known about love stories.

Up Next

My next read is going to be Of Song and Scepter by Liesl West, a dark retelling of The Little Mermaid. I love reading about pirates and mermaids during the summer. I feel like nothing makes for a better beach read. This is also an advanced copy, and the actual book will be published on July 2, 2024.

As a deep sea death-dealer, Enna Valomir’s life is simple: kill the siren, deliver the body, collect the reward. There’s just one problem. Enna owes a mermaid her life, and in the cutthroat waters of the Abyss, that’s a lifelong blood-oath of service.

When the mermaid orders her to kill the Abyssal princess, Enna is pulled into an impersonation scheme with no choice but to infiltrate a gaudy surface court and help the mermaid win the heart – and throne – of its unwitting future king.

Focused on restoring the Kingdom of Coral to its former strength, Prince Soren isn’t interested in courting the so-called Abyssal princess, or any power-hungry princess, for that matter. He’s finally met his match in her fierce and mysterious handmaid, and he’ll be damned if he can’t have Enna for his queen instead.

Despite the risks of breaking her blood-oath, Enna finds herself falling for the powerful siren. Will Enna forsake her own life to warn Soren of the mermaid’s ruse – or will she watch everything he’s worked for fall into ruin?
